Finding Joy-Time with Friends

CBest friendsan you remember the last time you spent a day with your best friend?  What joy you find in spending time with someone who really knows you.  There is such a comfort in being able to be yourself.  Your best friend will love you no matter what.  You have shared many memories together.  You have shared good times and bad times and most likely you’ve cried together through the tough times and laughed your way through the fun times.

Think back to when you were a child on a warm summer day.  You couldn’t wait to get outside and play with your friend.  Oh, the agony of having to have breakfast and help clean up the house before you could spend time with your friend.  You could spend hours in a large cardboard box that is now your fort, laughing over silly things; there was absolute joy in being together.  Try to recreate that feeling when you think about your best friend!

When you have known somebody since you were 11 or in the case of one of my best friends’ since 5, something truly magic and transformational seems to happen. You may not see them for months or even years; they may live in another country or half way across the other side of the world, yet when you meet again the intervening years just fall away and it seems like yesterday that you were having a good time together. Sometimes there isn’t even the necessity for words just a very comfortable silence as if you can read each other’s thoughts. Through the good times and the bad you know that there is always someone there for you and it is priceless.

Recently, I spent a day with my best friend from high school.  We had not spent a day together in many years.  What a great time we had reminiscing, catching up on each other’s lives and just enjoying each other’s company.  The time flew by and before we knew it, time had come to say good-bye.  But the feeling of joy we created in our time together stayed with both of us for a long time after we said good-bye.  That is the power of spending time with a close friend; the joy goes on and on.

This week make plans to spend some time with a good friend you haven’t seen in a long while.  You will experience such joy.  And what are we here for if not for joy!

An avid runner, she is passionate about exercise, eating healthy and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Jean was diagnosed with cancer in May, 2009 this only served to fuel the flames of her passions and encouraged her to learn more about wellness. This diagnosis actually led to the beginning of World Wellness Education with a mission of “Teaching the world about wellness — one story at a time.”

As Jean pursued alternative methods of treating cancer she met countless individuals who had great stories to tell regarding how nutrition, spirituality and exercise helped them to overcome their various illnesses. Since these stories were moving, motivating and timely she thought that each of these stories may make a difference in others’ lives. With the knowledge that we learn from stories more quickly than other teaching methods an organization was born in hopes to make a difference in the well-being of every individual on the planet.

Prior to Jean’s involvement with World Wellness Education she was a bank manager.  With the significant change that was going on in the banking industry, Jean learned that her staff did much better with change if they took it one step at a time.  She has now transferred this learning to the Wellness industry and created small weekly changes that one can make which will lead up to a significant amount of positive change by the end of the year.
