It Starts With You

It Starts With YouIf you don’t change, then the situation you’re in won’t change and it never will.  We spend so much time trying to change the situation.  We want a different job, a better house, nicer people, or anything else.  What we don’t realize is that we’re wishing for the wrong thing.  You need to change.  It all starts with you.  The change agent in your situation is standing right in front of the mirror.  If you change yourself then, and only then, will everything else change. Don’t expect others to change unless you do.
Have you noticed that when you go to work in a good mood everyone else seems to be in a good mood too?  That’s not a coincidence.  When we arrive in a foul mood then it seems like everyone else is too.  When we change, everyone else changes and so do the situations around us.  I know a man who says he has “bad luck with cars”.   I will mention that the cars he buys are all old and beat up and usually run terribly.  Why does he then have “bad luck with cars?”  This person has never had a stable job, saved any money, and doesn’t have good enough credit to buy a nicer car.
If he would change, then his “bad luck with cars” would change.  If he would go and get a steady job and save money, then he could get a car that he doesn’t have to take to the shop seemingly every month.  It’s his decision to continue to drive old beat up cars.  When people complain about their weight it’s because they eat bad, but you usually don’t hear them blame themselves.  It’s the food people bring to work, or their spouse doesn’t eat well.  They also don’t mention their lack of exercise.  Once again it’s their decision not to change.  When you decide that things are no longer acceptable, then you need to examine your life and make the changes necessary.  Don’t spend all your time trying to change the situation.

“Don’t wish it was easier; wish you were better.” – Jim Rohn

We waste valuable energy trying to change everything around us thinking that’s the answer.  The answer is you.  It’s having the right attitude or something as simple as putting a smile on your face each day.  You won’t be able to change in an instant, but over time as you change what you do each day and don’t neglect things in your life, you will begin to see dramatic changes.  You must do the little things each day that make a difference.  If you want to lose weight, stop eating fast food every day and take a walk around the block.
If you have a lousy job, try something different; work harder at it.  Believe me if you work hard people will notice and suddenly you will no longer have a lousy job.  When we make the changes, then our situation will change.  If you have problems in your marriage, try complimenting your spouse more and tell them you love them.  It will work a lot better than what you’re doing now.  Stop worrying about what other people are doing and worry about what you’re going to do.  Stop making excuses and make the change today.  Don’t wait until tomorrow or next week.  Make the change now.
