Patricia has started a movement across the United States called “Consumers Against Toxic Apparel”. She will share with us how and why we should be looking for clean, safe, organic and toxic free apparel.
Patricia Davis is a professional dressmaker and fashion designer. She is the Owner of Silver Needle & Thread Custom Sewn Clothing, Silver T-Models, Tag Custom Bridal and The Jacksonville Organic Business Directory. Patricia is also the Creator of CATA “Consumers Against Toxic Apparel,” the first movement of its kind in the United States. She is also a member of the PVI (Pure Integrity Verified Seal) team and serves as the Textile Verifier/Researcher awarding companies who meet the strict guidelines seal approval. She is a champion for organic fibre, apparel and the slow fashion movement. Clean, safe, organic and toxic chemical free products are her main focus, validating her commitment to the use of sustainable raw materials for fashion.
She has been designing fashion and sewing for over forty-two years. Her degrees are in Marketing and Management, Fashion Merchandise and Interior Design from The University of Mississippi. Her career has afforded a plethora of experience in the fashion retail industry covering every aspect of fashion, from low end to designer allowing her to live around the country and travel abroad. During a portion of her career she worked in New York City and traveled across the nation opening designer boutique stores.
She resides is Jacksonville, FL where her company CATA is the first company in the state to earn the Sustainable Workplace Designation Seal 4 Leaf Accreditation, a green sustainable program created by Harvard University.
Ms. Davis is a member of NAPW (National Association of Professional Women), North East Florida Green Chamber, The Girls Gone Green, Green Production Guide, GreenPeople, Green Bride Guide, Organic Consumers Association and Green America Green Approved.
She’s an expert of textiles having sewn every known fabric at least once. Oftentimes, she dedicates her time by serving as a mentor for many organizations in the community and women seeking help with their business ideas. She is a certified color consultant at YTC Your True Colours Fashion Academy located in Memphis, TN where she incorporates color analysis as a basic part of her core wardrobe services. Coordinating fashion shows, offering seminars and publicly speaking are also a part of her daily routine.
Patricia is focused and committed to educating, empowering and inspiring women to understand the toxic practices used in today’s textile industry and the dangers associated with the hazardous chemicals. She wants consumers to beware of the impact these chemicals impose on our family’s health/wellbeing and offer alternatives. She believes fashion is a universal language that the whole world speaks and it can be used to initiate positive change to affect our environment, health, ability to sustain natural resources and much more affecting the life of every man, woman and child on earth and earth itself in a positive mindful and conscious manner.
