Health Benefits of Spinach

By Jean Sumner

I love spinach! It tastes great in a salad, steamed, in soups and in all types of recipes.  This healthy green is full of vitamins, antioxidants and minerals. Spinach has an extremely high nutritional value and is rich in antioxidants. It is a good source of vitamins A, B2, C and K, and also contains magnesium, manganese, folate, iron, calcium and potassium.

Dark leafy greens like spinach are important for skin and hair, bone health, and provide protein. Yes, that is right spinach provides protein.  As a vegan I often hear “where do you get your protein!”  I must say I do get tired of this question.  Protein is found in all vegetables, legumes, seeds, nuts and the list goes on.  So yes, spinach has protein!

The possible health benefits of consuming spinach include improving blood glucose control in diabetics, lowering the risk of cancer, lowering blood pressure, improving bone health, lowering the risk of developing asthma and more.  So be more like Popeye and eat your spinach.
