Making Change Easy

In an ever changing world it is sometimes overwhelming to keep up with the changes in our lives or the changes we need to make in order to be healthy. Technology alone can drive a person crazy.  For example, I just got a new cell phone.  Now this wouldn’t seem like a traumatic event however there is so much new and different you would think I had never had a cell phone before.  Fortunately, the principles one can use to change your diet and lifestyle apply to every change in your life.  So once you master the principles of change for health and wellness, you will be able to master all the change in your life.

Mastering change is quite simple.  It is as easy as taking one step at a time.  Let me explain this comment with a story.  A year ago I was diagnosed with cancer.  This diagnosis set a lot of change into action.  Over the last year I have become a vegetarian, started juicing vegetables, began sprouting, went to a raw diet, increased my spirituality, began meditating on a daily basis, starting eating green smoothies, began taking a infra red sauna daily, started journaling, started a prayer book, read everything I can find on health and wellness and in general completely changed my life.  Now, if I told you that it was necessary to make that many changes it is likely you would be completely overwhelmed and not make any changes.  And that was exactly how I felt as I learned the changes I needed to make to conquer the cancer in my body.

But the systematic method of breaking change down into small components is how one can master any change.  As I go over the last year, it is easy to see that I was constantly making small changes.  I began by becoming a vegetarian, and one of the methods I used at this stage was to try one or two new recipes per week, add more salads into my daily diet and find something for breakfast that could substitute for the bad breakfast food that is found in the traditional American diet.  As I review my journal, I see that I made one change at a time.  Mastering change is just as easy as breaking it down to small incremental changes.

Let’s say you want to implement a healthy lifestyle.  Setting your goal to change your diet, exercise and increase your spirituality would bog you down and most likely no change will happen.  But what if you had a weekly small goal and you built on these goals through out the year.  This way you could be 52 times better by the end of the year.  Let me give you an example:

Week One       Walk for 10 minutes per day

Week Two       Add a salad to what ever you have for lunch and dinner

Week Three     Find a meditation website and practice a 10 minute meditation

Week Four      Add 5 minutes per day to your walk

I am sure by now you get the picture.  Doesn’t this seem simple?  You can make dramatic changes following this methodology.  So good luck in whatever change you want to make.  Remember, one small thing at a time will end up being big change!!!!

Jean SumnerJean Sumner has pursued an interest in wellness her entire life. An avid runner, she is passionate about exercise, eating healthy and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.Jean was diagnosed with cancer in May, 2009 this only served to fuel the flames of her passions and encouraged her to learn more about wellness. This diagnosis actually led to the beginning of World Wellness Education with a mission of “Teaching the world about wellness — one story at a time.”

As Jean pursued alternative methods of treating cancer she met countless individuals who had great stories to tell regarding how nutrition, spirituality and exercise helped them to overcome their various illnesses.  Since these stories were moving, motivating and timely she thought that each of these stories may make a difference in others lives.  With the knowledge that we learn from stories more quickly than other teaching methods an organization was born in hopes to make a difference in the well being of every individual on the planet.
