Do Something Creative

creativeLet’s explore the joy of creativity.  When you write something, draw something, do a craft, get your hands dirty, these activities allow your creativity to come to the surface.  As children we did this type of activity daily and found a lot of joy in our creativity.  But as adults we are too busy or we believe these activities are trivial or unimportant.  It is important to change your mind-set about creativity.  When you take the time to rediscover the things you love to do, you will be energized, centered and connected to the world in a more meaningful and positive way.

You will find creative joy as you unleash your creativity.  What is creative joy?  It is doing something creative that brings you joy.  It is that simple.  There is no expectation of results, except for the joy you receive from doing the activity.  The creative process will make you happy.  Truly when you complete the project you will find joy but the journey of creating will bring you more joy.

Deciding what creative process makes you happy may be the most difficult part of this assignment.  Since we do not take the time to know ourselves well in this busy world we may not know what creative process will bring us joy.  Is it writing a book, painting, gardening, blogging or poetry? Ask yourself the question, “If time or money isn’t a part of the equation what creative practice will make you happy?”  What is it you would do just for the joy of it?

Whatever project you choose it is important to do it only for the joy of it! We recently painted our living room.  Like most people we put it off as long as we could but it finally became a necessity.  I dreaded the process.  Once we got started, my husband did most of the painting and I acted as the assistant.  It was amazing to watch his transformation from thinking of this project as an unwanted task to enjoying the creativity of the project.  He fell in love with the joy of being creative, he chose the colors, he chose where he would place the colors and as the project moved forward he seemed to find more joy in the outcome.

Place creative joy on the top of your to-do list. Start the list of what will bring you creative joy.  Engage in these things just for the joy of doing them.  Perhaps it is knitting a sweater, making pottery, painting, or even organizing.  Put together a collection of ideas and activities that encourage you to use your life as a canvas and explore your creativity through everything you do. Go ahead. Roll up your sleeves and get to it. It’s time to do the things that make you happiest.

An avid runner, she is passionate about exercise, eating healthy and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Jean was diagnosed with cancer in May, 2009 this only served to fuel the flames of her passions and encouraged her to learn more about wellness. This diagnosis actually led to the beginning of World Wellness Education with a mission of “Teaching the world about wellness — one story at a time.”

As Jean pursued alternative methods of treating cancer she met countless individuals who had great stories to tell regarding how nutrition, spirituality and exercise helped them to overcome their various illnesses. Since these stories were moving, motivating and timely she thought that each of these stories may make a difference in others’ lives. With the knowledge that we learn from stories more quickly than other teaching methods an organization was born in hopes to make a difference in the well-being of every individual on the planet.

Prior to Jean’s involvement with World Wellness Education she was a bank manager.  With the significant change that was going on in the banking industry, Jean learned that her staff did much better with change if they took it one step at a time.  She has now transferred this learning to the Wellness industry and created small weekly changes that one can make which will lead up to a significant amount of positive change by the end of the year.
